Website for the Local Coordinating Committee of New York
The October 22 Coalition to Stop Police Brutality, Repression and the Criminalization of a Generation has been mobilizing every year since 1996 for a National Day of Protest on October 22, bringing together those under the gun and those not under the gun as a powerful voice to expose the epidemic of police brutality.
The Coalition also works on the Stolen Lives Project, which documents cases of killings by law enforcement nationwide. The second edition of the Stolen Lives book documents over 2000 cases in the 1990's alone. The second volume to this book is now in the works, and volunteers are needed to help with the research and editing. Please contact the National Office at 1-888-NO BRUTALITY or info@october22.org for more information.

CIVIL RIGHTS SUMMIT ON POLICE USE OF "DISORDERLY CONDUCT"
hosted by the Civil Rights Campaign of Picture the Homeless
January 21, 2010
7:00pm
Center for Constitutional Rights, 7th Floor
666 Broadway (between Bond and Great Jones Streets), Manhattan, NY
(6 train to Bleecker Street, F to Broadway-Lafayette, N/R/W to Prince Street)
From PTH: "Many people in NYC know that tickets and arrests for 'disorderly conduct' have been used by the NYPD unconstitutionally, with the alleged violation not even specified. Individuals from sectors of the city's population that have been targeted with police harassment have their lives messed with, get caught-up in the police-court-jail system, are pressured to plead guilty, made to pay a fine they can't afford, etc.
Please join the organizations and individuals at this summit for discussion and action-planning -- to organize to stop the illegal harassment and criminalization of homeless and non-homeless people through the use of the Disorderly Conduct statute."
